Regnaud - Thiers
Gilles Regnaud is the only knifemaker working with lava. It does require a special technique he is still the only one to master.
In 1989 Gilles Regnaud opened the Thiernoise Company of Coutellerie Artisanale S.T.H.I.C.A.L.
His workshop is located in the Thiernois basin in Chabreloche.
His main activity was the Laguiole knife, but following the creation of LE THIERS® in 1994, he decided to start manufacturing this knife. He makes LE THIERS® with classic sleeves but to differentiate himself from other manufacturers he seeks an innovative material in cutlery and which represents Auvergne, land of Thiers cutlery. It will be lava. Lava is a symbol of this volcanic region as LE THIERS® has become the knife symbol of the capital of cutlery.
It took hours and hours of work and failed experiences to finally develop a mounting method for a lava stone or Volvic handle. This Volvic stone so dear to the Auvergne, building material for Clermont Cathedral.
This lava sleeve initiative allows you to have a little bit of Auvergne in your pocket doubly.
Following the success of its range of pocket knives, it developed a LE THIERS® cheese knife still with a Volvic handle, table knives and kitchen knives also exist.
